Wednesday 23rd January offered a rare opportunity to tour the recently opened GEIC (Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre) at the University of Manchester.
This world-class £60 million centre for the development and expertise of graphene, is the cornerstone of “The Graphene City” and just as Silicon Valley in the 1970s seeded the golden era of microprocessors and electronics, it is not difficult to imagine how this centre cannot fail to become a contemporary catalyst for the UK 2D materials equivalent.

The tour of the labs went at a reasonable pace so the photos were fairly rushed and were taken through glass window as we didn’t have access to the lab spaces directly. It’s an exciting place to see, some lab spaces are still in the process of having equipment installed but there’s plenty of evidence of activity.
Thank you to Versarien plc, one of the three Tier I GEIC partners, for organising/hosting the event and the GEIC staff who gave the tour.
